Course overview

Break ground on a career in the glass industry with this entry-level course. You will develop the knowledge and skills needed to work across of a variety of job roles including safety, manufacturing, processing, installation and handling.

Glaziers have been identified as skilled workers in growing demand. According to the Australian Glazing and Glass Association glass is being increasingly used in new building projects, driving demand for qualified tradespeople in this area.

In this course you will learn how to select, cut, install, replace, and remove glass in a variety of residential and commercial settings. You will also gain practical skills including basic glass handling, using glass and hand and power tools, and how to glaze and re-glaze residential windows and doors. Our experienced and passionate trainers will give you the one-on-one guidance you need to succeed.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as a glazier or glass and glazing tradesperson. You will also gain the basic knowledge and skills needed to complete further study in this field.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

To study an apprenticeship or traineeship program you must be indentured as an apprentice or trainee with your employer.

Employers need to be able to provide the necessary human and physical resources to qualify for an apprentice.

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes the use of safety glasses, protective footwear with covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip soles to AS2210, long leather gloves to AS2161, and hair protection. You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing. If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

You are also required to have access to and bring personal stationary.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
