Course overview

Make a start in your engineering or automotive career with this entry-level qualification. Improve your chances of getting a diesel fitting apprenticeship and gain the practical, hands-on skills you need to increase your employability.

Diesel fitters are employed in a number of high-growth areas across Australia including the mining industry. Automotive skills will also open up opportunities to work in a broad-based skills area driven by new technologies.

In this course you will use new and emerging computer technology, workshop machines, electric welding machines, and oxy-acetylene and soldering equipment. Learn how to undertake a basic engineering project, pull apart and reassemble engineering mechanisms, and develop a career plan for the engineering and manufacturing industry. Our highly-experienced teachers are still heavily involved in the industry and will give you both the practical and theoretical knowledge you need to launch your career.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as an apprentice diesel fitter or motor mechanic, or to seek employment as an equipment repairer or maintainer, scrap metal recycler, or warehouse worker. You will also have a solid foundation to advance your career by continuing with further study in this field.
