Course overview

Course overview

The internet and network infrastructures are increasingly vulnerable to a wide variety of physical and cyber-attacks, and a single cyber breach can have huge consequences for a company’s ability to function. This is why the demand for cybersecurity professionals continues to grow. Get onboard and develop an understanding of cybercrime, security principles, technologies, and procedures used to defend networks.
This course introduces and explores the broad topic of cyber security in a way that matters to you.

Aligned with the Cisco Introduction to Cybersecurity course, you will learn how to protect your data and privacy in your personal and professional life, and will be able to identify common cyber security threats to networks, machines, applications, data, users and infrastructure.

You will develop an understanding of how businesses protect their operations from these threats and will learn why more and more IT jobs require cyber security awareness and understanding.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • define threat actors, threat vectors and threat goals
  • examine threat vectors such as Phishing, Malware and password attacks along with the nature and motivation of the actors perpetrating the attack or posing the risk
  • describe techniques used by attackers to infiltrate a system
  • identify cyber-attacks on enterprise infrastructure
  • implement methods and identify equipment to protect the data and privacy of individuals and the organisation
  • identify and apply access management – user access and privileges

This course is designed to provide an introduction to cyber security for students new to the study area of IT, and for networking professionals looking to expand their existing skill set. Upon the completion of the course, students are encouraged to consider other Cyber Security courses including the Certificate IV in Cyber Security.

This short course is non-accredited therefore is not registered with the National Training Register.
