Course overview

This English program is designed for people on temporary visas who are not on student visas and who do not qualify for government assisted programs such as the Adult English Migrant Program (AMEP). This program is run by qualified English Language teachers in an accredited institution. Lessons are delivered in a supportive and fun environment, with class sizes kept to a maximum of 18, to ensure a personalised approach . At an advanced level, you may be prepared for the International English Language Testing Program (IELTS) test which is a requirement for some people working and studying in Australia.

Selection criteria

You must be 18 years of age or older, and have no education restrictions on your visa.

Upon commencement, you will be assessed to best determine the level at which you should begin your studies. Your visa classification must meet the criteria for this program.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to and bring to class personal stationary including:

  • a USB 
  • headphones
  • a grammar textbook for an approximate cost of $40 (recommended for advanced level students)
  • a bilingual Oxford Picture Dictionary (optional)

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
